Community Fridge — Sarah’s Healthy Food Saving Ideas

Ingredients and method
Ingredients
- 2 litre carton of semi skimmed or full fat milk (for thicker yoghurt)
- 2 large serving spoons of your favourite plain yoghurt
Equipment
- Large saucepan with lid (or cling film if no lid)
- Wooden/metal large spoon
Method
- Put the 2 litres of milk in a large saucepan, heat gently until the milk boils and continue boiling for 10 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and leave until cool enough to put a finger in the milk (i.e. the milk is still hot but not burning hot).
- Add the 2 large tablespoons of your favourite plain yoghurt and stir.
- Put the lid/cling film on the saucepan and put it in a warm location (airing cupboard/boiler cupboard/next to a radiator) overnight wrapped in a blanket or thick towel. In the morning you will have thick yoghurt that can then be transferred into the fridge.
Handy tip
Remember to keep 2 large serving spoons of the newly made yoghurt for your next batch of yoghurt making.
