Sustainability

Rescue food. Support people. Reduce waste.

Our volunteers collect surplus food for the Driven Forward Community Fridge, helping good food reach people in our community and keeping it out of landfill.

Rescuing and sharing food

Our volunteers collect surplus food from supermarkets, including Tesco and Waitrose, and frozen food from restaurants. Collections include fruit, vegetables, bread, cakes and food with a short shelf life.

We let our “community fridgers” know when food is short-dated so they can make informed choices. Our food-waste guide explains the difference between best-before and use-by dates.

Thinking of donating food? Please check with us about what we can accept before bringing it along.

Supporting our wider community

As well as stocking the community fridge, we have shared food with people and groups across the local area:

  • Sawyers Close and Broom Farm Estate: Food for local families and adults.
  • Viscount Court: Bread, cakes and sandwiches left after the fridge closed.
  • Windsor Baptist Church Ukrainian support group: Regular Tuesday food donations.
  • A local nursery: Fruit shared when available.

Surplus bread has also gone to the Swan Sanctuary, and food unsuitable for people has been passed to a pig farm.

Made possible by volunteers

More than 30 volunteers supported our seven-day food distribution. We’re grateful to everyone who has helped keep the community fridge going.
