Food Waste

Good food belongs in our community

Driven Forward redistributes surplus and rescued food through our community fridge, helping people make their food budgets go further and keeping good food from going to waste.

Small changes can make a difference

Food waste costs a UK household of four an average of £1,000 a year, according to WRAP’s 2026 Food Waste Action Week guidance.

Checking what you already have before shopping and planning how to use it can help you waste less and make your food go further.

Know your food dates

Best-before and use-by dates mean different things. Knowing the difference helps you make informed choices about your food.

Best before: quality

Food may still be suitable after its best-before date, although its quality can decline. Follow storage instructions and check its condition using the guidance below.

Use by: safety

Follow the storage instructions and use or freeze food by its use-by date. Food stored incorrectly can become unsafe even before that date.
